Titanium “SeaHorse™”: Please Don’t Force Me To Make This!
This could go really badly…
I just spent an OBSCENE amount of time polishing the latest Cogent creation …the SeaHorse™.
The result — even if I do say so myself — is unlike anything I’ve seen in a long time!
In case it’s hard to tell from the photos – the SeaHorse™ is around 65mm (2 1/2″) long and made from 3.5mm thick Grade 5 titanium.
It’s STRONG. I haven’t tested it fully yet for strength – but, believe me, it’s SOLID.
Here’s the problem:
I don’t want to make any more …because the time and effort involved to get the titanium like this is unreal!
But, hey, I’m a helluva nice guy – and you’ve been good to me 🙂
So here’s the deal…
If there is enough interest — and by this I mean if I get enough comments and emails demanding I produce it — then my back is against the wall and I’ll do it. It’s a true one-of-a-kind piece.
It blows my mind how something that looks so damn cool …can still manage to perform 100%! But, hey, that’s Cogent Industries for ya. 🙂
So, let me know what you think…
Magnus
P.S. I secretly hope the SeaHorse™ is a “flop” – because I want to own the only one like it! (…ain’t I a big ol’ meanie? :-P)
P.P.S. The price will most likely be in the $80 to $90 area – which is probably a bit of a bargain to be brutally honest with you. Should really be asking a couple of hundred for the work that goes into producing this highly-polished master-piece!
What I’m trying to figure out is if this beast eats oats or seaweed?… 😛
Ok Magnus, this is uber cool and sexy! You HAVE to make this! No excuses. Would like to get my hands on a prototype (hint, hint). You need to make a few more prototypes of the Seahorse (hint).!
Make it. We will buy it. Build it tough. Like holding up heavy stuff tough. It doesn’t have to be any bigger than your prototype is. I’ll buy one. Or 2.
I can’t say I’d be interested in one of these. I’m holding out for a decent keychain like the Rabbit.
Hey Ted! I’m still working on that for you… 🙂
The rabbit is the only key holder that I like at all. The others have just sucked. Sorry to be so honest. We will see if you can bring this in for a bearable price. I can see this being very popular.
I want some… Sell me the one pictured if nothing else! The polish is very nice.
Damn – well there’s one. Yes, the polish is pretty cool I agree.
Oh, almost forgot…
The polish/shine on titanium does not fade or tarnish or anything like that!
How do I know?…
Because I polished a piece of titanium last year and it’s been sitting outside in the sun, rain and bucket-loads of salty sea-spray (I live near the beach) for almost a year…
…and it’s pretty much just as polished as it was a year ago. Incredible.
Hmm, undecided on that one, though I can certainly think of a use or two for it. But tell me – is it asymmetrical, i.e., is one end slightly smaller than the other? Or is it just perspective that makes it look that way?
Yes, it’s symmetrical …I think my [bad] photography skills are showing it looking a little out of perspective.
That is one nice Seahorse! I would like one, but have no reason to need one, so do not count me in unless others force you to make them 🙂
Nicely said Keith. Ha-haa
I like this! Currently use the Hangkey for keys but Seahorse would work better for me. Have a Rabbit but can’t make it work for my keys.
It’s not as hideous as I expected it to be! And I’m kind of itching for one but in the mindset of maybe yes maybe no grrrr. The polish is very nice though, nicely done Magnus.
Thank you Joe. It looks better in real-life for sure.
I’m in.
Man, the feedback is coming in thick and fast…
Some of you could take it or leave it — but a TON of you sold on it. Interesting.
Hi Magnus ,
I’m in ….. I could use a few of those myself .
What’s the price going to be?
Keep up the great work!!
Cheers,
Steve
I would definitely be interested in one though I can’t decide whether I like the polish
Also, I should point out the polish looks a lot better in real-life…
The photos (mainly due to my lack of skill in this area) show finish of the piece more “rippled” and not as silky-smooth as it is in person.
Thought about it, and on reflection I definitely really need one.
polishing titanium, now that sounds like a LOT of fun. have you tried diamond. It does look really good, but would you sell it in a brushed finish?
I’m not so sure about a brushed finished (have never tried to do that yet). Matte/stone might be a possibility…
I’d buy at least one. I’m a sucker for anything titanium.
So am I! 😀
magnus
you are now obligated to make this.
if you show …it must go
I will order one
gh
ha-haa …it’s looking kinda like I might have to (the response has been even stronger than I thought ..which is kinda cool!)
I think I might be the first female to say……I’d like one.
I believe you are Dawn – cool!
Yup, she’s a goodie. You must have sooo much fun with this stuff. I am kinda like Bri – real soft spot for titanium. Bring it on!
Magnus, what’s the chance of getting a figure 8 for my rabbit ? With my set up it would be extremely cool.. love my rabbit, Don’t think I would need a seahorse..
Don, you mean the figure-8 ring for going through the posts?
I will take one. Just let me know what you need to order one.
You have to make this! I’ve been looking for an “S” type biner for quite some time… Maybe you could offer a polished version and a version that resembles the finish on your other Ti pieces. Maybe that could lower the cost a tad bit. Anyways I NEED at least 2 of these, time to get to work Magnus…. Lol
Mike
I agree.
Also, the other reason I like this design so much is it’s just so damn practical!
I’m a sucker for practical things that look cool. 🙂
Magnus, that is seriously cool. My initial reaction was “cool, but not needed”, and has become “cool, I need to think of a use”. A bit like my Viperfish TBH – I’ve yet to do it justice, poor thing!
Don’t feel too bad James …I know a lot of ViperFish buyers who won’t even take it out the box. Seriously!
Magnus,
I see a need for the seahorse in my small but crazy world.
So I need to fill that need.
I believe that the polished finish is the best I’ve seen in titanium.
Thanks
Steve.
Thanks Steve. Yes, I think everyone needs a SeaHorse. Ha-haa
Man, the response is overwhelming – can hardly keep up with replying… very cool!
I would buy one or two, I’m sure I would find a few uses for it. I go camping and hiking often so having a good clip like this is always useful.
YES – camping is where it’s at for the SeaHorse!
You have to make this- the uses are endless! The Polish is amazing and it looks like a heirloom quality item. Future generations are counting on you!
Ha-haa thank you Mike!
YOU NEED TO MAKE IT!! I want one!!
Well I Don’t Think I Need It, So I’ll Take One, Maybe Two. It’s So Hard To Pass Titanium Up. I Have Enough Keychains To Last 16 Lifetimes. But I Keep Buying more, It’s A Sickness. Same Goes With Pens And Knives. You Need To Make The Seahorse.
You can never have enough titanium stuff I reckon Dwayne. I have a boatload also!
I’m in
Hi, Magnus. Just make it, please. Yes, I’ll definitely buy it, because it looks awesome!
I really like the look of this one, better than the last one!
Hi Magnus,
I love it but I want you to stop coming up with this cool stuff !
You’re going to ruin me !
No, seriously, make it and I’ll buy it !
Looks awesome !
Hi Magnus and friends,
You’re a prototyping machine! Looks great! Would definitely consider one, but more partial to stonewash finish. But if you do that, well probably have to buy both, lol! Anything to get price lower would help like non-polished versions. Best to all 🙂
try use only one spring bar to work for both hook
it will be much simpler
It’s a great idea Jon …and something I’ve been working in.
But it’s proving waaaaaay more difficult than I initially thought. This is because of the unique way I cut and insert the spring-component.
i continue to work on this…
OK I’ve been quiet for a while. But I’m in for this one. Sheer genius Magnus.
Oh I want one. Please make it! I’d be happy with an non-polished version or two as well.
do it, Do it, Do It, DO It, DO IT!!!
I totally agree with Stephen. Lower price and stonewashed finish would be great. For those of us in the US, shipping costs really ad up. Beautiful products, but I am having a hard time justifying all the Cogent clip purchases with my wife… 🙂
I would TOTALLY buy one of there dude!!
How wide is it? Fit on a belt loop or more geared for key-rings?
Well, from the first picture and the stated length of 65 mm, we can figure that the width is on the order of 20 mm or so. That’s a bit big for a keyring, I think.

I want some! Please make plenty! I’d also be happy with a non-polished version as well.
Love Titanium.
Most definitely make this, and put me down for one please. Thanks Magnus
Take my money, please!
i like it
Magnus, This thing is super cool… and the polish/finish is awesome. Not quite sure what I’d use it for but I want a couple of them.
Cheers,
Tom
I have to have something to hang the viperfish from. Definitely buy one, if I win poker this week, I will order 2. Go for it
I want one as well, if it is not too late. It looks so nice, more like a pice of jewlery than a ‘mere’ clip.
