Ego Spinner – Update 4
Well what can I say, but …I’m sorry!
I promised you a weekly update for your Ego spinner pre-order …and I’ve completely let you down. It’s been at least three weeks since my last update. Shame on me.
Personally, I hate to hear excuses from people – and so I won’t give you any excuses. But what I will do is tell you right now is that I’m going to do a damn sight better from here on in to try and re-gain your trust and confidence.
Onwards!
So, in the next 2 hours (as I type this), I’m going to speak to my machinist about YOUR Ego spinner.
I’m going to talk to him about seeing if we can change two things:
#1 – The way the buttons are held in
and
#2 – How the bearing is retained
This is currently how I’m planning to retain the buttons (this is a button example from the Air spinner I launched on Kickstarter recently):
There is an ‘o-ring’ around the shaft of the button. This then slips inside the center of the bearing and is held in by friction. I have another idea (that is even simpler) …but I’m not sure if it can be done. I will let you know in the next update! 🙂
Updates from here…
Now, I mentioned a few weeks ago, the updates will get better.
Initially we were waiting for material to arrive (which it has). And now we are just on the edge of getting started on machining that actual spinner itself (whoohoo!).
Once we actually start machining then there will loads of cool stuff to show you. But, so far, it’s just been a few random photos and loads of me yapping (without actually saying anything :-P).
Right, I’ve got to head up to my machinist’s place right now to discuss your Ego spinner.
Again…
If you have any questions or comments then please let me know in the comments below.
P.S. You may have noticed, since the last update, the website has changed name from CogentIndustries.com to MagnusX.com. “Magnus” is the new name for my business.
P.P.S. I was waiting to change the name of the website before finalising the “Member’s Area” for you. I will have this setup soon. Thank you for be so patient. I appreciate it! 🙂
Looking forward to watching this progress. Very exciting. Also like the new name and the idea of a members area.
I can’t wait to see some photos of the production. The pictures of the raw titanium bars got me excited !
I don’t see the Air on Kickstarter
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/cogent/fidget-spinner-0
The initial pledge part of the Kickstarter campaign for the Air is over. But who knows, maybe Magnus will offer it on his site after the Kickstarter pledges have been fulfilled. I’m truly thankful that I was able to get in on both the Ego and Air spinners. I have a feeling they’ll be instant favorites.
Not sure I like the button idea. It being held in by friction reminds me of the cheap plastic buttons that fall off of the typical fidget spinners. I don’t like the idea of possibly having to replace the o-ring either, if they wear from use.
I remember reading something you wrote about a revolutionary button snapping design that you were going to include in this spinner. Even buttons that screw together would be an improvement.
What if you made a combination of both screw in buttons, and the o-ring idea, to keep the buttons attached to each other and the bearing to reduce shaking.
I have been supporting you for years and your products are always of the highest quality.
Hi Magnus,
I’m one of the lucky ones who have signed up to receive both the Ego AND the Air spinners!!!! We know you’ve been sick, so I’m glad you’re back and working again! I’m so excited to receive updates from you whether they are video or just email.
Have a great and productive week!
Sherry
I have a design suggestion for your buttons. I remember back when you were making prototypes some or your buttons had a vertical line down the middle. It was almost a authentisy design. It gave your spinners a very distinct look. I think many of us liked it. Anyway you can incorporate that into your new buttons. Just an idea. Keep up the good work looking forward to it.
Not really a fan of the O-rings. I hope you can make it magnetic or just simple screw in buttons.
And one more question,is it compatible with after market spinner buttons such as Zerofeud and Moduswork buttons?
Its not flattering at all, to wait, wait and wait… THEN to find out that you are actually working on new products (kickstarter..) instead of putting energy into fulfilling orders. 2ndly: your highly praised “best” spinner is being altered? So was this “bestness” ever tested in real before you abundant words?? This is not encouraging. Please no more words, make it happen in real.
@Cortexpilot – He is delivering the Ego spinners before the ones that he sold on Kickstarter. (I trust him so I ordered both.) He’s also got a business to run. We can’t expect him to stop everything else that he is working on and only work on our Ego spinners.
Thanks Magnus ~ I like the new company name too!
You always have my support Magnus! I have complete confidence in whatever design decisions you decide to implement. And the anticipation is all part of the excitement 🙂 Look forward to more updates.
Thanks for the updates buddy, I really don’t think any of us has lost any confidence in you I know I haven’t at least I have full trust in you that you’ll give us one of the best spinners ever made. Can’t wait for the next update man pretty excited!!!!
Mag, no worries, I can always wait for perfection.
Hey Magnus, what about the spinner size? I believe you were thinking on increasing the width, would love it a bit bigger really.
“Air spinner” has a prototype and we can watch movies, but “EGO spinner” is still only CAD image.
“Air spinner” looks awesome, but I do not like the rotation feeling of a bar type spinner.
I want to see the prototype of “EGO spinner” as soon as possible!
@Lazlo, I appreciate your positive perspective. However: imho the project could be/ should be beyond cad now*. And concerning business: it can be critical to have multiple preorder projects… there is the danger of the “pre-order- trap”(parallel preorders may accumulate too much work, which HAS TO BE done somewhen in the future..). I understand however that there are also other, finished works which require time and attention…. and are crucial for business. but concerning the pre-order sector and the time intervals observed a sequential Fulfillment might be better long term. *I also meanwhile have read that there might have been a pause due to health issue – such can happen to anybody of us and I would accept any delay for such reason.
… well for once I was the “bad guy” with the critique uttered in my previous message – sometimes however this is needed for a certain Balance… thanks to all sending encouraging messages to Magnus.
I expect no more at this point, had mostly forgotten about this project; would be shocked if this ships before 2018.
