Okay, here’s the deal…
I thought it was about time to give you another update.
But, the problem is, as I’m starting to write this I have absolutely no idea what to write about.
I’m serious here! I typically have a ton of things buzzing around my mind …but today there is just NOTHING.
You’ve experienced this before, right? No creativity. No ideas. And perhaps even no motivation. It seems to be a natural ebb and flow of how our brains work as humans.
Sometimes we feel like we’re brain-dead …and other times we’re fizzing, bubbling and ready to explode with ideas. I’m sure there are “triggers” to help force our brains to become creative or motivated with a flick-of-a-switch. But I’ve not found it yet! (Although the closest I’ve experienced is John Cleese’s excellent talk on creativity here)
So, here you are…
You’re reading this and perhaps thinking, “Magnus, you can’t fool me! You’re saying you don’t know what to write about, but I secretly know you’ve got something awesome to tell me!”
Seriously, I don’t. I’m writing this for purely selfish reasons. 🙂
I’m having one of those “non-creative” and “no motivation” days. They are unavoidable. So, what I decided to do is write. Or, more specifically, write this exact update to you.
You might like this:
The #1 reason for writing this to you is because it’s therapeutic (and you thought I did it purely for your benefit? …well, okay, there is a bit of that too!). Writing can often be “a massage for the mind”. I’m serious.
Writing is one of those things that focuses your mind and can get you out of a “mental slump”. And I’m not talking Shakespeare here! (hell, look at this last sentence, I started it with the word “And” …this would make any English teacher shudder!).
You WILL like this:
The #2 reason for sitting down and writing is because it’s important to just do something.
Whether it’s writing …or designing titanium products …or whatever …actually doing something (anything!) is the absolute best way to start when you don’t know where to start.
Want an example?
Well, what I’ve just written to you is a perfect example. The title of this article (can I call it an article?) has only just come to me just now: “What To Do …When You Don’t Know What To Do!”
But, here’s the thing…
Just 20 minutes ago I had no idea what to write about – but I just started typing. Somehow, as if by magic, your brain starts to get “into gear”.
I know, you may not be convinced, but next time you’re “stuck” or not “in the zone”. How about you just go for it and start. Try it …for me! 🙂
Talk to you soon,
P.S. One more thing… We’ve almost reached $30,000 in funding on the Titanium HookUp™ Project on Kickstarter. Unbelievable!
P.P.S. The three current products on my website have been selling like hotcakes …so, in case you somehow missed them 🙂 …check out the HangKey™ key pocket-clip/dangler …the PryMal™ minimalist pry-bar …and the ViperFish™ multi-function pocket-tool.
You may not believe this, but…
I’ve had more requests from people (via Kickstarter) to produce a wallet than anything else. And I think I know why!
The main reason is because, although there have literally been one or two hundred wallets on Kickstarter (yes, I have seen every one of them!), there has not been a single one that ticks all the right boxes for most folks.
Personally, I have found this to be the case. Like I said, I’ve seen every wallet on Kickstarter – but not a single one has been close to what I NEED. Very frustrating. Have you found this?
Here’s where YOU come in…
I have been working on a wallet for some time now – and finally have the main concept done (…as well as a VERY functional prototype).
What YOU need to do is tell me exactly what you want in a wallet.
I’m 80% there with the wallet design (and will try and give you a “sneak peek” soon…) — and now at the stage where YOUR input into the final design can be critical!
So let me know exactly what you want …or …what you don’t want …what annoys you …what you’d like …big …small …hold four cards …hold twelve cards …hold cash …material …basically, give me a brain dump!
Thank you in advance for your input. 🙂

Here’s a strange thing…
It doesn’t matter how many projects or products or such I do – I always, ALWAYS forget how quickly things tend to come together near the end.
A few days ago everything seemed so far away (although still coming together as planned – but perhaps a little behind schedule).
Then, as if by magic, I’m just days away from shipping the Rabbit™ for the Kickstarter project.
Not only that – but the ViperFish™ is almost ready to go too (available here: ViperFish™ ).
The good and bad thing is…
I still hold down a full-time job so everything is done in my spare time. Last night, for example, I came home at 6pm and was up until around 12am doing packing and such. It’s crazy how long it takes when there is more than a handful of any one thing to be done!
Oh, and importantly, I still went out for an hour-long walk during this time. Yeah, I know, it’s got nothing to do with anything (you just want Rabbit and ViperFish™ updates, right?) – but, I’m telling you this anyway…
Taking time out (especially when you “don’t have time”) for walking or some such relaxing activity really is like re-charging yourself. I used to hear people say things like this and always thought, “I’ll do it when I have time”.
The problem is… there will never be time.
I’ve been busier than ever these last few weeks …but I’ve also made sure (and by this I mean forced myself) to take a decent walk each night when I get home …even if I’m telling myself I just don’t have time.
I literally force myself to go for a walk. And, after each walk, I feel physically and mental “re-charged”. But, longer term, it’s helping with healthier eating and generally a better state of mind (if that doesn’t sound too “new age” 😛 ).
Okay, okay. Enough of this walking stuff!
Let’s get down to business… Continue reading…
Okay, so, I’m picking the freshly machined Rabbits up this afternoon and will start the tumbling this weekend.
Luckily I have a beast of a tumbler so should be able to put 200 at a time in (maybe more!).
I will do a better update soon but I really have to run off right now and pick up those Rabbits!
In the meantime – here’s how the new, slimline custom titanium screws and posts turned out – enjoy:
People need rules…
With all of life’s uncertainties — it’s good to have something rock-solid in place. Something you can TRUST and RELY ON.
Perhaps “rules” is the wrong word. More of a structure to making decisions and knowing what you stand for.
The aim is to help both YOU and I understand what Cogent Industries is about. I know, I know …it a fairly self-centered request for your input. But hey, you don’t have to comment if you don’t want to. 🙂
So, with that, I’d like you to help me put together a “manifesto” or “10 commandments” type thing for Cogent Industries.
I’ll start things off with a couple…
#1 — Accept only the very best in life and everything.
#2 — You generally get what you pay for. Purchase wisely.
#3 — …
#4 — …
(Man, my first two are pretty poor — hence why I need your help — but hopefully you get the idea, right?)
These titanium tweezers are fully-functional, final prototypes.
Hand-finished (in fact, there’s a boat-load of hand-finishing done on these!) and in the final stages of tumbling. A little more hand-finishing on the “tips” and they’re ready to ship.
More details to come soon – but here’s a “sneak peak” for you…
Where did they go?…
I’m talking about all the “old school” toys I used to see when I was a kid.
As you know by now I love Lego (and so “help” my Son with his Lego as an excuse to play with it :-P).
Here’s the thing…
There was another toy I played with when I was young – I never owned this toy but my cousin did.
The only way I can describe it is: there were long, plastic strips of ‘track’ that would snap together where you could run small toy cars down it.
It was such an awesome toy because it was so simple and you could make different tracks and do jumps and things with the cars.
I thought, “I’ll get this for my Son”, but…
I couldn’t find it anywhere! I mean, I could find similar toys (i.e. Hot Wheels), but they were really “fancy” and you could only make one track with it.
So, just as with THIS Rabbit project, I had to make my own!
Here’s what I did… Continue reading…
Is this the greatest video-update yet?
That’s for you to decide.
Let’s just say… it’s different. There’s cars, grinders and random topics of conversation (which I let you in on!).
Cheers – Magnus
